In January 2016, the AHRC experienced a leadership change, as we bid farewell to our inaugural director Dr. Muhammad Mamdani following a successful 8-year term. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Peter Jüni as the new AHRC Director. Dr. Jüni joins us from the University of Bern in Switzerland, where he was the Director of the Institute of Primary Health Care and Professor and Chair of Primary Care and Clinical Epidemiology at the Faculty of Medicine. Previously, Dr. Jüni served as Director of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Bern and Founding Director of CTU Bern, the University’s clinical trials unit.

Dr. Jüni trained as a physician and researcher at the University of Bern and the University of Bristol in England. A Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, he has an international reputation for his methodological work and for clinical research on the management of cardiovascular and musculoskeletal disorders.

Dear colleagues,

Firstly, I sincerely thank you for the warm welcome as I have transitioned into my new role and settled with my family into our new life in Canada. I am amazed by the academic setting that I find myself in, with top-notch people who not only have an amazing track record but are absolutely pleasant to work with. It’s a true privilege to experience a leading North American academic institution from within.

Over the past six months, I have been continually inspired by the creativity and innovation of our academic and industry partners, and am encouraged by the possibilities for new collaborations and the perspective of bringing high profile trials to Toronto.

As we move forward, I would like to see the AHRC continue to strengthen partnerships with all of the University of Toronto affiliated hospitals, seek out new opportunities to integrate administrative data into our clinical trials, and offer university-wide research platforms across a variety of clinical areas.

I am thrilled to be here with the AHRC and cannot wait to see what we can accomplish together!

Wishing you all the best,

Peter
